To finish math, students have to think so hard, and all of them make math as less favorite subjects. Actually, loving mathematic can be built as early as possible. There are many fun and attractive study methods which should be explained and practiced. The young children will be interested to look at colorful flash cards and study by memorizing the pictures there. Flash cards can be used to solve addition, subtraction, division, or algebra problem. So, the children do not have to write the answer. They should take the cards to show the correct answers.

Besides, games are commonly chosen as the attractive method to deal with math problem. Some children can act as the sellers, and the others are the cashiers, and customers. That will create the grocery situation. If the children have access to computer once or twice a week, computer can be used as the learning media. There are math programs which allow the children to learn math and improve the computer skills at the same time. With the internet connection, children can study math online. Another fun method is cooking. This can be applied when the students have to learn about measurement. They can weigh and cut the ingredients based on the teachers’ instruction. Finally, teachers and parents are supposed to keep motivating the children to love mathematics.

At school, there is no subject which focuses on explaining the students about the study methods. So, they have to struggle to find the effective methods of study which will suitable with their characteristic. In high school for example, the curriculum does not put the learning methods as the points to be explained to the students. This makes many students think that studying is only about reading and memorizing without comprehending the essences of the topic. Sometimes, you even do not have to write or read because you have known the spelling and are supposed to memorize them while looking at the computer monitor.

As an alternative way in education, homeschooling gains a lot of attraction nowadays. The reason is homeschooling provide individuals with exact study methods based on the students’ need, characters, and learning style. During the teaching and learning process, the tutor often does not need any board, marker, desks and workbooks. In teaching literature, tutor usually uses narration, dictation, and copy work to improve the student’s language, arts and writing skills. Another method is using computer as the teaching equipment. This is very suitable for the student who is visually oriented and prefers studying alone. She or he can concentrate well in front of the computer. So, tutor should prepare various and structured lessons to occupy the student.

There are some tutors who combine some methods from the traditional until the modern ones. They choose a method based on the material and goals that want to be achieved. Additionally, there are some parents who want to teach the children themselves. No tutors needed in this case. They become the facilitators and focus on teaching through multi-sensory, self-directed activities. Although formal curriculum is highly needed, homeschooling allows the tutor to create materials and methods to support the goals that the children want to get. So, there will be a time when the student can play outside, visit museum, explore the nature, and go to other places. They are done to educate the children the important aspect in life.
